Dogtra EF - 3000 Gold Dog Fence Review

!±8± Dogtra EF - 3000 Gold Dog Fence Review

The Dogtra brand makes a lot of training equipment for sporting dogs. They have one dog fence system called the, the EF-3000 Gold. The Dogtra is the only rechargeable in-ground system that allows you have independent correction levels for each dog, so is a good choice if your dogs are of pretty different temperament or size.

Box Contents

The Dogtra collar is a little on the chunky side and looks dated but does the job. Avoid using this on dogs over 20 lbs. The collar has been updated from the previous version to use a lithium polymer battery. It has a much better life span than the nickel metal hydride battery it replaces. We find these get you 3-4 weeks of charge and take two hours to recharge. The collar has five correction levels, and vibrates as well as beeps to warn the dog that they are too close to the boundary before giving the dog the correction. The vibration feature is great for older dogs that are hard of hearing. The correction levels are set on the collar which lets you set an custom correction level for each dog on the system. The collar comes with long and short probes and these plastic no shock training probes.

Transmitter

The transmitter on the Dogtra can do up to 40 acres. It has the basic controls - an on/off switch and a boundary width dial. There are two wire ports for the boundary wire loop. And a third wire port for you to ground it directly if there is a grounding stake nearby. Don't worry if there isn't, you can use one of the optional lightning protection modules to ground the wire using the ground connection in any three prong power socket. The system comes with the standard 500 feet of18 gauge boundary wire,50 flags and two waterproof splices.

Conclusion

This is a good system. But at this price point, I think the Innotek 4100 has it beat. The collar on the Dogtra is significantly bigger and the Dogtra doesn't have the features like the battery backup, collar fit and the indoor / outdoor pods.

There are a few situations where it has the Innotek beat. First if your dogs can't hear very well, the vibrate feature here is really useful. Second, if your dogs are very different sizes the ability to set the correction level for each dog independently on the collar make this a better choice. Third, if you need more than the 25 acres capacity on the Innotek, the 40 acre capacity on this unit make this the one to get.

Food Dogs Should Not Eat

!±8± Food Dogs Should Not Eat

Many pet owners like to feed their dogs scraps from the table as a little treat. In most cases, this habit will not lead to any serious health problems. However, there are some foods that a dog should absolutely never eat because they can lead to serious issues and, in some cases, even death.

Some people believe that it is a misconception that dogs cannot eat chocolate but, in truth, chocolate is actually very dangerous for dogs. The caffeine in chocolate acts as a stimulant and can cause their hearts to beat irregularly or accelerate, which can lead to seizures or cardiac arrest. Chocolate also acts as a diuretic and causes severe diarrhea and vomiting. If someone even suspects that their dog may have ingested chocolate, they should take them to an animal hospital immediately.

Another food that many people do not realize can be harmful to dogs is onions. Onions are particularly dangerous because they cause a breakdown in the red blood cells of the dog, which means that oxygen will not travel properly throughout their bodies. Symptoms can include vomiting and diarrhea, as well as loss of appetite, exhaustion and fever. If someone has fed their dog onions before and has not had a problem, they should be aware that these symptoms can develop over time if a dog continues to eat onions.

There are some dog owners who are less than responsible and think that it is funny to feed their dog alcoholic beverages such as beer. This is a terrible idea because the body of a dog is not equipped to process alcohol. As a result, dogs are very susceptible to alcohol poisoning and even a small amount of alcohol can lead to serious digestive problems or even death.

Bread dough is also a human food that can be very dangerous for a dog if they eat it. Since it is so soft, dogs usually swallow bread without chewing it and then their body heat causes it to rise. This can lead to severe bloating and vomiting. In addition, the rising action of the bread can create an alcoholic by-product which is extremely dangerous for dogs.

In most cases, it is safe for a dog owner to feed their pet scraps from their table every now and then. However, they should be aware of what they are feeding their dog and the effect that it will have on their bodies. An occasional treat is fine, but there are some human foods that can have serious and potentially fatal effects on a beloved pet.

Tips On Crafting A Workable Dog Fence

!±8± Tips On Crafting A Workable Dog Fence

By the time you "know" that you need a dog containment fence, you're probably late, and your dog has gone loopy and walkabout. Local leash laws...fines...anxiety over a wandering and potentially "lost family member" are only some of the key reasons for moving proactively on a fencing for pets game plan.

Designing Plans For Dog Fence Installation. In any "dog run" home and family project, you have four (4) broad categories of planning to sort out.

1. Measuring For Optimum Size Dog Run. Size matters. Bigger is better. Dogs, from Chihuahuas to Labs, need physical activity and movement to keep them mentally and physically in balance and happy. Carefully measure, and then set aside the largest area that your property can yield. Dog run fencing based on meshed easy-to-install deer fencing opens up seriously large dimensions...meanwhile, smaller more restricted but potentially sturdier dog kennels offer a smaller-is-best alternative.

2. Identify Food, Water, Weather Protection Needs. Space, layouts, creating overhead sun and weather protection...a quiet resting zone...food...water bowls...outdoor pet bedding or blankies should all be carefully assessed before finalizing your outdoor dog fence.

3. Budgets And Costing. You've rejected the low cost single-point cable-and-leash dog run strung between two fixed points, and is at best a limited dog run option, but costs under . The next quality level up are dog run fencing designs based on impact-resistant deer fencing like plastic materials, giving tremendous flexibility in terms of up-and-down your property layout, and cost around .40 per linear foot, including fencing material, posts, and ground anchor hardware. Most robust and secure, yet highest cost are chain-metal dog kennel fencing systems, offering modular panels and integrated access gates.

4. Burrowing Underneath Or "Break Outs" Risks Minimized. By their nature, pet containment fences mean "keeping the furry guys inside". However...dogs are smart, and with time-on-their-paws they'll instinctively examine every inch of your perimeter dog fence or dog kennel, in a natural inquisitive "probe" to see if there's a weak spot, where they might dig under, jump over, or speed dial a locksmith to assist in an escape. Meaning? Think like a dog, walk every foot of your pet fencing, looking for loose soft ground and especially for pet fencing based on deer fence enclosures, making sure that your ground anchors along with rocks or other weighty objects properly seal the fence from a burrowing pet!

Modular Dog Kennels. Bomb-shelter rugged engineering is what families get when constructing a modular dog kennel. Dog kennel fencing materials can vary, but the accepted "standard" is some form of anodized aluminum chain-metal fencing. Strong? Virtually impregnable, from the outside or the inside. Aesthetically, a small "down side" factor with a dog kennel fence is that it "stands out" on your property, and lacks that eco-friendly subtlety of deer fencing which is virtually invisible except for the entrance gate.

Dog Run Fencing - Creature Comforts. Keeping pets safe, and out of mischief in terms of wandering or safety of passerby persons, is only a fraction of the planning necessary for a quality pet containment fence. A dog's age...breed...health...character and personality...and physical sensitivities to heat, cold and water are key "planning inputs" when determining the size, location and outfitting of dog run fencing.

* Water. Simple, functional gravity-fed large reservoir watering units are a must for a dog run. Clean water, up to several gallons or more, goes into the reservoir. After each drink, the unit naturally emits replacement water equal to what your dog has drunk. Reason? Hydraulic pressure.

* Shade And Rain Protection. Any outdoor pet fence must include a shade and rain protection zone...think dimensionally at around 6-foot square...tarps minimally or a more permanent hard cover construction gives a rest, sleep and weather protection safety zone.

Are Apples Really Bad For Dogs?

!±8± Are Apples Really Bad For Dogs?

Many pet owners like to occasionally treat their dog to a few slices of an apple. However, some are apprehensive because they have heard that apples are actually bad for dogs. The truth is that it is safe for dogs to eat apples in moderation, but it is not a good idea to let them eat too many of them, especially if the dog has certain health issues.

They say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away and this can actually be true for dogs as well in many cases. Apples are a good source of dietary fiber as well as Vitamin C, which can protect against dysplasia, a condition that affects large, purebred dogs. They are also rich with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids which can help a dog keep a thick, glossy coat.

Although there are health benefits to eating apples for dogs, there are also parts of the apple that are not safe for a dog to ingest. Apple seeds can be dangerous because they contain amygdlin, which is a form of cyanide and prevents blood from carrying oxygen throughout the body. If the dog only swallows a few seeds, the body will detoxify itself. In fact, a dog would have to ingest a large number of apple seeds in order to experience serious side effects.

If a particularly conscientious pet owner wants to take extra precautions, they can prepare the apple for the dog prior to serving it so that it is safer. The best way to do this is to core the apple and cut it into bite sized pieces and give it to the dog that way. This may take a little bit of extra time and perhaps seem extreme but, for many dog owners, it is better to be safe than sorry.

There are also a few health conditions a dog may have that would make it unsafe for the animal to eat apples. For example, a dog with kidney problems should not eat apples because they contain high levels of calcium and phosphorus. The Omega-6 fatty acids in apples also cause inflammation, so it would be unwise to feed them to a dog who suffers from arthritis.

Pet owners should not be afraid to feed apples to their dogs, they should just be aware of the circumstances under which they may not be safe. If a dog has a particular health issue, it may be wise to consult with a veterinarian before feeding them apples. In most cases, for a healthy dog, apples served in moderation can be a tasty treat.

Are dogs colorblind? Discover the truth

!±8± Are dogs colorblind? Discover the truth

There are many misconceptions about dogs, such as the belief that they will die if they eat apples or that their mouths are cleaner than human mouths. But to say some things that people, dogs are actually true. One of the common notions about dogs that actually has some truth to the claim that they are colorblind.

Dogs are not in the sense that only displays images in black and white colorblind. However, they have a color field significantly limited in comparisonto see what people can. Most dogs can see what appears in shades of yellow, blue and violet are. You are not able to red, green and orange colors that look to the people, because these colors are somewhere in their range of blue and yellow.

The reason why dogs have difficulty seeing the color is better by comparing their eyes to the human eye to explain. Both man and dog, two types of retinal photoreceptors, rods and cones. However, the human eye has more types of cones, while theDogs eye has more bars and no fovea, people with such detail.

The differences in the eyes of dogs than the people do not always work against them. As a result, dogs have a night vision, which is far above the people and are much better at tracking. However, they are not able to see nearly as much detail and are able to recognize colors and shapes less than human.

If pet owners about how their dogs learn to really seeThings, I often wonder if it's the way it affects the ability to play with their pets. It 'true that if someone throws a ball to his dog orange grass green, yellow is like a ball of yellow grass to find the dog. For this reason you may have problems actually seeing the ball, but will still be able to take it because of their excellent detection of the movement.

There are significant differences between the eyes of dogs and humans, and these make it difficultTo distinguish between colors many dogs that humans can easily see. Even if they can see many different colors, dogs are able to see some shades, and are not limited to seeing only in black and white. The differences in their eyes, the dogs ability to provide superior motion detection, which are different from themselves for their lack of capacity for the real difference between the colors.

Dogs can get the flu?

!±8± Dogs can get the flu?

Although everyone knows that animals get sick from time to time, are often uncertain whether these diseases than those who deal with people who have been compared. A disease that dogs can be in a form similar to that of humans contract the flu. Canine influenza is a virus that has only in the last five years has become, and was first found in racing greyhounds sick.

The canine flu symptoms are actually very similar, to keep the symptoms in humans when they are sick, but also the symptoms of a disease such as kennel cough are known to close. A dog with canine influenza have a cough for 1012 days ago, which is longer than kennel cough. They are also a low-grade fever and nasal discharge. Dog fence wire 18G or 20 g - who voted for my type Dog Fence

!±8± Dog fence wire 18G or 20 g - who voted for my type Dog Fence

Are you confused about the use of the head every time the dog electronic fence. The two most common types of dog fences are 6:20 p.m. Gage Gage. That should do for your situation and why? Of course, both doctrines are working for all the systems fence underground or Innotek, PetSafe, or other producers do not grab the dog fence systems with 20 Gage wire. Bundle their systems technologies perimeter fence dog with 20 grams or 18 grams This fence dog is often very difficultto find since the individual roles, unless the dealer actually sells the dog fence kits, and sometimes they do not sell the extra rolls of wire disconnected.

However, there are some recommended guidelines to help you decide which dog is best for you fence. First 18 Gage is stronger and more durable and long lasting 20 Gage wire border. Solid core copper wire is better than wire.

Here are some guidelines to consider:

U.S. 18 Gage, if you

RockySoil or rock If they are not buried wire A lot of trees or vegetation Greater than 5 acres
And with 20 Gage, if:

Loose sand or clay Putting wire next to a fence Few trees or vegetation 5 acres or smaller area

NOTE - If the installation has an electronic fence dog on the floor, use lawn staples every 5 feet to keep the wire in place. If the wire moves then the dog becomes confused about where its limits are. These aresold in packs of 100 staples. A package takes care of a 500 meter spool of thread to be taken. Where the grass is cut, it is best to bury the wire.

Of note are some important tips when purchasing a fence system:

The installation of underground cable is to use a better tool grinders, grinders or gas powered edger, could also see that the cable at the same time, there is a cable-layer milling or edger is called. The wire should be buried only 2 -3, but it can go deeper if youwant.

No two types of thread! Mixed wire can report problems and affect the functioning of the system. 20 Gage Stranded When you start, then get stuck with 20 Gage. Not going to be stuck to the solid core. The same is true for all different types and sizes of wire. If more than 500 feet can be purchased for large areas, to ensure that the extra cable is the same type of wire.

- If the pre-twisted wires, use twisted wire 20 Gage 20 Gagesolid core conductors, and if you are at 18 Gage wire for fencing, you must use at least 18 stranded Gage. Pre-twisted wire used to provide a gateway or a place where the dog can cross the dog and not to create a stimulation or shock from his collar.

Never fence or weave your dog to a fence and metal fence, which will negatively affect the functioning of the fence.

-If you already have a fence that your dog jumps up, climbs over or dig under itwould be better, the electric barbed wire fence at least one foot in the existing set does not attach to the existing fence. In this way the dog will be able to get the collar, wearing to cross the wire, get a shock. If the dog fence is too close to the existing wooden fence or the dog will not get a shock and will not be deterred.

-If you go to the dog fence, or densely planted with trees in the forest where you can not bury the wire soleaving the surface. Use pliers or trees, to keep the wire in place and grow on the floor. It 'important to the thread, cut grass is where burying the wire.

-The wire is water-resistant with a polyurethane coating and is also due to wetlands and marshes to go and still work well.

Important, if you place your order, additional rolls of wire, you should always order an additional set of 50 flags marking each roll with additional 500 meters of wire that you buy. Theis for your pet at the edge of knowledge. If you are 1500 meters of wire, for example, you should get about 150 boundary flags.
